The excellent folks over at Icecast.org have announced the release of Icecast 2.5.
I've already been doing extensive testing on it, and it seems to work almost perfectly. It can be used in the same way as 2.4.4 with no config changes necessary. It's output streams are playable in all the common players I've tried like VLC and browsers like Chrome and Firefox.
The only issue I've seen with any version of Icecast is in the uncommonly used "fallback-override" config to hand off listeners from one source to another — it introduces lag and the audio gets borked. The Icecast people are aware of this and are working on it. However, "fallback-mount" works fine and I use that in a cool and interesting way (ask me!).
