When I first heard
Rockit I thought, "Holy shit, what
is this?! Please, sir, I want some more." But my record store didn't have the
Future Shock album available. So the clerk convinced me to buy a
K-tel compilation called
Breakdance. The B side of the cassette was a hilarious yet informative rap teaching you how to breakdance, performed by
Alex And The City Crew, a Dutch group. The only stand-out track on that side was the instrumental
Boogie Head, which sounds both of-its-time and ahead-of-its-time.
Side A had the first six tracks,
Rockit through
Pop Goes My Love, but most were edited to fit the 30 minute playing time. Side B finished with the shortened 7-inch release of
Alex And The City Crew's only single,
Say What, Say Who. Since once isn't enough, I went through the playlist a second time using the full versions. That's an extra 15 minutes of electro-synthy 80s goodness!
