Flyboy's Myst/URU Story

My start with Myst like adventure programming started in the late 70’s with the Atari PC. This included the King Quest and Space Quest series (currently available on Gametap) and I became hooked on Adventure gaming.  Later, I acquired an IBM PC since more adventure games were being released for this computer. Thru web sites I learned of the upcoming release of the Myst game and I was really hooked. Since then I have played every one of the Myst and URU series of games at least every year on a standalone basis.

When URU was released I did not have broadband communication. When I obtained this faster method I discovered the Until URU game being run with the full URU ages but no new content. I also quickly learned of the D’ni Cocktail Party being hosted by Donahoo in the Kadish Gallery and enjoyed the music, dancing and friendships with the other players.

I learned of the Karaoka Saturday night parties later after Gametap took over the URU online game. Recently, in a discussion with Peni she encouraged me to check with Swifthawk to see if they would be interested in an instrumental (piano) since I cannot sing very well. The answer was positive and I submitted 10 pieces that I had recorded using a Yamaha keyboard (can duplicate over 50 different instruments including 5 different type pianos and organs), MIDI interface and my PC. My professional music software allows me to record, edit, and do any of 5 format conversions and save the music. I can also print out sheet music of what is being played among other things. In addition the software features many prerecorded sound tracks of drum and bass instruments rhythms. These I have added to 2 of the 10 pieces.

Swifthawk has also asked me to do a separate write-up for a Myst/URU Story on my musical background/career which I will include on this web site. I will sorely miss the URU experience and trust that it will be reincarnated in the near future.
